About Me

I am a 31 year old husband, father, software developer, aspiring experience designer, and private pilot. I am a native of Chicago, born and raised. I now live in the near suburbs with my wonderful wife, new baby daughter, and our three cats.

Professionally, I have spent the last ten years creating intranet and extranet Web applications using Java technologies. This has meant a lot of time spent with databases, protocols, and making computers talk to each other. In that time I have come to realize that all the joy I get from computing is derived from helping people solve problems. Consequently, I am now shifting my career toward the human side of computing, to deliver products and solutions that people want to use. I am spending a lot of time getting acquainted with mobile platforms (iPhone and Android) and learning to leverage rich internet application technologies (Adobe Flex/AIR).

When I get a spare moment (which are rare as new father), I geek-out on my MacBook Pro, read everything I can about iPhone development, Flex, and Ruby on Rails, and take classes toward a degree in Human-Computer Interaction from DePaul University.

I am also a private pilot. I received my training from the excellent instructors at Midway Aviators and passed my FAA exam in July 2006. I rent a DA40 and fly out of Chicago’s Midway Airport (KMDW). I now have about 130 hours of flying time in my log book, but I haven’t been able to fly since February 2007 due to financial considerations. I hope to return to the air in the next year or two and I look forward to sharing the passion of flight with my children.
