Why Didn’t I Think of This?

iWas There 6.29.07

My wife and I had a nice dinner near Oak Brook last night, so I took the opportunity to swing by the Apple Store after the crowds died down. I played with an iPhone in the store for about ten minutes. Initial impression: it appears to be a well-implemented, high-end convergent device. The keyboard does take some time to learn. When my current mobile phone contract runs out next month, the iPhone will be on my short list of new devices to investigate.

Six Month Review

It’s been six months since I last checked in with you. Let me highlight some of the things that I’ve been thinking about during that time.

  1. The database is not the application—get your head out of 1990.
  2. Java is dead—that’s right, I said it!
  3. ColdFusion is dead and buried—sorry to burst your bubble.
  4. Rails will rule—the choice of a new generation.
  5. RIA has a bright future—HTML must die.
  6. REST wins—big Web Services were a tool manufacturer’s wet dream, and now we’re all waking up.

I will go into each of these in more detail over the coming weeks. Hold the flames until I get to elaborate.
